Before I start telling you what you can do to save money, you need to understand that I am not a financial guru or that I even have any education or particularly extensive experience in the world of finances or even business. Therefore, the advice you will find here is not on how you can save millions and how you can get on the Forbes’ list of most affluent people. Instead, I am going to concentrate on the saving of money that anyone can do today and that may not seem like much, but that will over time accumulate and provide you with just that little bit of extra that everyone needs sooner or later.
First of all, you need to take care of things around the house. I am not saying that you should feed your family on bread and water here; I am just saying that there are tons of expenses around the house that can easily be cut without anyone being any wiser. For instance, you can get one of those packages where you get the same company to provide your cable, Internet and your land line phone. Perhaps you may even be able to cut the land line altogether, depending on whether you have people you only communicate that way. You should also make sure you are not wasting electricity and water. This takes a bit of effort and even training, but the savings will be quite significant.
When it comes to eating and drinking, there are tons of things that you can do. For instance, you should probably forget about eating out all the time. Cooking at home is not only money-saving, but can also be fun. You should pack lunch at least once or twice a day. Furthermore, there are some groceries where you really do not have to go with the big brands. Of course, you will not be buying store brand cola, but for beans or something like that, it really does not matter. Also, you need to avoid the biggest scam of all times – bottled water. Tap water is perfectly drinkable and the costs are negligible. When you are buying groceries, you should make sure that you have a list and that you stick with that list.
Entertainment is also where you can significantly cut your costs. For instance, if you are watching a lot of movies, you can always become a member of an online DVD club of some kind instead of buying them. The same goes for books. There is this invention called libraries where you can borrow them for an annual fee that will set you back less than a new book. Just one new book. If you want to go to the movies, go before 6 p.m. The prices are lower.
New technologies should be monitored closely because both, the manufacturer and those who are offering services used it for self-promotion, offering discounts and coupons to people so that they save some money and do not have to pay full price. It should be up to speed i.e., you should be at the right time at the right place and the savings are guaranteed.
When it comes to your social life, there are also a few things that you can start doing today and that will save you money. For one, you don’t need to go out every weekend or every day. After work drinks are something that you enjoy once or twice a month, not every day. When you planning a holiday, plan it in advance; plan it way in advance. You will be killing on the savings.
There are many other things that you might do but some of them are quite intrusive and would be a bit too much for the average person. The ones I mentioned are some of the easiest and most effective ways to save money on the little things.
